I could not find a lot of information about the old school in Humphrey, Idaho. The abandoned school is located just 7 miles south of the Montana border, at the northern end of Clark County. The school had two floors, making it unusually large given that the tiny town of Humphrey had a population of fewer than 100 people before its decline. In the 1960s, Humphrey had a grocery store, gas station, post office, and several homes. All the Humphrey School photos were taken by Adam Winsor and used by permission.

This is the Humphrey School as seen from the front. The school is located just off I-15 and can be seen from the freeway.

The school closed in 1948. All of the other buildings that once made-up the town of Humphrey are long gone, leaving only the school and the teacher’s house. The wooden fence is part of a corral that now surrounds the building.

The main floor of the building was constructed on a half-below-ground basement made of concrete. Sheet metal was used on portions of the roof.

Traces of red paint can be seen on some of the siding and trim. It looks like the school building was originally painted red, like many schools built at the turn of the century.

This is the main floor, which had two classrooms. A large section of the floor has collapsed into the gym in the basement, or maybe the floor was torn apart to salvage some of the wood.

The school having a concrete foundation is one of the reasons that it is still standing.

The basement is where the gym was located. Occasionally dances for the community were held here. Most of the boards littering the floor came from the gym’s ceiling.
